Why use a Paired t-test in hypothesis testing?
A paired t-test or dependent sample t-test is used to compare the two related samples of small size, it is appropriate when the data is collected in matched pairs like when the data are collected before and after the experiment. It helps to study the effectiveness of the experiment.
PROBLEM
A group of 20 students in a class scored marks less than 50. So they had coaching, coaching for statistics for a month, and took the test again and this time most of the students had scored more than 50 but a few of them still scored less than 50.
Here paired t-test helps to conclude that the coaching has been effective.
