In this lecture, I have explained about the reactivity for Grignard reagent for the preparation of ketone. Generally, Ketones are very reactive and react with Grignard reagent and resulted in alcohol preparation. Consequently, it is not possible to prepare ketone from suitable reagents like esters or nitrile. Interestingly, this problem could be resolved by a special technique named as “inverse addition” where the Grignard reagent used to add carefully to the solution of ester. This is an interesting methodology for the reaction with a Grignard reagent which I have explained with explanation and mechanism. Previously, I have uploaded a few lectures about Grignard reagent.
