Dirty Onion Pub; One of Belfast's Old Timber Frame Buildings Video

The Dirty Onion Pub in Belfast claims to be built in one of Belfast's oldest intact timber frame buildings which used to be a warehouse - originally constructed in 1680. Known as the Dirty Onion Belfast - it is a modern pub mixed with remnants of the past. It is lively every day! Also on site is the Yardbird - which offers great value food on any day or night out in the city!

The pub is on Hill Street in Belfast - part of the Cathedral Quarter, which means that you could be offered with other places to visit in this area as well since the Cathedral Quarter is known as one of the most famous places which are located in Belfast City Centre (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teQFlh-ezts).

With this mixture of the modern and the old pub that is combined in the Dirty Onion Pub, you will get the chance to experience the oldest building in Northern Ireland and at the same time get the chance to enjoy a drink or have a meal. This authentic Irish pub that is made with a modern twist is home to one of Belfast's biggest beer gardens with a cozy peat fire inside that gives the place the chance to welcome visitors all year long, no matter whether it is summer or winter. In addition to serving people with whiskey, beer, and chicken, this place is also offering entertainment seven days of the week - so you will be covered in all the different ways.

From Connolly Cove side, visiting the Dirty Onion Pub was for the purpose of checking Belfast's oldest intact timber-framed building which was constructed in 1680, which afterwards gave us an idea about the modern pub which is found these days and which a lot of people enjoy going to and visiting - and we have to say that we also did.

There is a long history behind this old building and that was considered exciting enough for the Dirty Onion Pub owners to search for and know more about. What might be known around the public about this building is being used as a warehouse that traded everything from fish, whiskey, tea, tinned soup, to linen and even much more, and there were different businesses that occupied this place in the past.

Digging deep behind the history of this old building, the family of the Dirty Onion Pub managed to know that the journey of this place started as a fish warehouse from 1680 and in 1760 it became a general merchant/grocer. After that and getting into the 1800's, this place became William Berwick & Company Tea Importers in 1808 which was expanded to Berwick and Ash in 1811 which also became Berwick and Ash Wholesale Grocers and Merchants in 1831 and after the death of George Ash in 1859, it was described as shops, stores, and yard. In 1865, it was occupied by William Moreland & Co. Dry Salters and in 1880 it was Macnaughton Cement & Alabaster Stores. In 1991, the place was occupied by the Stack "N" and there were others things and details that might have come into the story of its occupation before the Dirty Onion Pub came to life.

Getting the pleasure of starting your business in such a historical place means that you should honor this kind of history you are completing. The Dirty Onion Pub succeeded at honoring this long history that the building is carrying and that is the reason why it decided to have this Jameson Barrelman Statue in the beer garden to honor the history of the place since the last occupier was the Stack "N" which was used to store Jameson whiskey in Barrels and Crates, which means that during this period, tens of thousands of Jameson bottles passed through these doors.

After our visit to this place, we will definitely refer it to all those coming to visit Belfast and will head to the Cathedral Quarter at some point - which should be also done - because this is the place that combines lots of things all at once; the beer garden, the two bars, as well as the restaurant which offers really good food (Yardbird) and at the same time could entertain the visitors all days of the week with traditional Irish music as well as the live bands and the acoustic acts which are there during the weekends, and the good news is that they don't charge people for the entrance.

If you happen to be in the Cathedral Quarter in Belfast then you should also check St. Anne's Cathedral (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k63KxsVKNi4), the Commercial Court (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIBfUcGkBaI), and even check those murals and artwork which are found there across the streets (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xpOSaxwqlA).

It was definitely an interesting experience to come to this oldest timber frame building in Belfast which has gone through different experiences with different businesses and which is now occupied by the Dirty Onion Pub that is succeeding at providing people with all their needs from entertainment, food, and drinks; you should check this place out someday.
