In this video, I have discussed about Tollens Condensation which describes the conversion of acetaldehyde to Pentaerythritol in presence of formaldehyde and base. This is actually a cross-Aldol types condensation and at the end Cross-Cannizzaro reaction. This reaction clearly demonstrates the extremely high reactivity of formaldehyde compare to other carbonyl compounds due to higher eletrophillicity and least bulky substituents (i,e, hydrogen).
