In this lecture, I have described the preparation of pyridine, an aromatic six-member heterocyclic molecule from 1,5-dicarbonyl compounds via a condensation reaction in presence of ammonia as the source of nitrogen. In the subsequent step, the aromaticity was regained by the oxidation process. Additionally, I have discussed two different strategies ( like hydroxylamine and pyrinium substitution) where the last step oxidation could be avoided.
