Google Cardboard QR Code Generator: The Only Guide You'll Ever Need Video

Virtual Reality has been around for quite a couple of years now. And if you love the concept of VR, you‘d want to own a VR headset too.

00:00 - Google Cardboard introduction?
00:59 - How to create a Google Cardboard QR Code?

But here’s the thing—those high-tech gadgets are pretty cost-intensive. But the good news is—people at Google realized this and developed something quite simple and affordable—Google Cardboard.

While the name may sound a little amusing, this simple cardboard can actually turn your phone into a VR headset. And many companies are following the suite to develop similar headsets.

Plus, it’s pretty simple to set up too!

There are two elements of the Google Cardboard setup. First, the Google Cardboard app that helps you launch VR on your device. Second, Google Cardboard VR Viewer that fits around your phone to serve as VR goggles.

And to make it easier for you to calibrate your VR headset, the Cardboard uses a QR Code. Here’s how it works:

1. Head on to App Store or Play Store and download the Google Cardboard app

2. After the app has been installed, open it to grant permission to use your phone’s camera

3. Next, you’ll see a QR Code on your viewer, scan it via your smartphone

4. Now, place your phone in the VR viewer device

5. Next, set up your desired VR parameters to calibrate the VR scene. Here you can specify details such as screen-to-lens distance, inter-lens distance, and distortion coefficients

Note that you’d need to adjust the distortion coefficients in such a way that the vertical lines appear straight and angles appear at 90 degrees through your viewer lenses.

In addition, you will also see Advanced Viewer Parameters such as Field-of-view angles.

Once you have specified all the details, click on Generate Profile. Now, you will see the Google Cardboard QR Code. Google allows you to download this image as PNG and SVG.

You can now just scan this QR Code using the Google Cardboard app to install the calibration in your device.

That’s it. You’re good to go and use the Cardboard for a fun-filled VR experience.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. 🎥

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced 🤔

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. 🔍

Creating Truly Random Links 🛠️

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube 📺

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎵

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact 🤑

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. 📈
